About two years ago I was watching the evening news. A reporter was interviewing the son of a soldier killed in Iraq. The reporter asked “what will you remember about your father” and “what are you the most proud of”. The 10 year old boy just said “he was a soldier”. His face, his voice, his words and his sacrifice are with me today.
I started paying more attention to stories about military personnel that come back with no arms, one leg, head wounds and terrible burns. I started searching for information and found out that rehab is a long and painful process. I realized that after rehab these brave men and women must get a job and take care of their families and that families of the fallen have lost a provider and a partner. I started thinking about ways one person could help.
An Awakening
I then realized that our own streets, our neighborhoods and our schools are battle grounds. Police officers and firefighters are killed and injured saving our property and our lives. Teachers are attacked in the classroom and our quality of life is slowly slipping away.
I then realized that I have taken these professions and these men and women for granted all of my life. With the help of Jamie Hutto and Valeo Design and Marketing- MemphisCares.US was born.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
